About Gloucestershire

On the northern edge of the South-West, this beautiful county comprises parts of the Cotswold Hills. Gloucestershire is made up of 16 towns and villages including Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Chipping Campden, Newnham, Westbury-on-Severn, Cinderford, Stonehouse, Blakney and Lydney, Coleford, Drybrook, and Longhope.

Our South West office is in Bristol. Seen as the ‘capital’ of the South West the city is often perceived as the most desirable to both reside and also work in. Why? Bristol is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK yet is surrounded by rural treasures and coastal beauty – the best of both worlds. Straddled across the River Avon, Bristol boasts two universities, over 400 parks and gardens and is the birth place of the most famous graffiti artist – Banksy as well as pirate Blackbeard! Notorious for wanting to do things their own way, in 2012 the Bristol Pound was launched. This was designed to keep money in the local economy and has enjoyed a roaring success in keeping trade local since then.

  • In recent years Gloucester’s cathedral has been in the spotlight for one of the many filming locations of the famous Harry Potter films.
  • A Mr John Horton was accused of murdering his girlfriend back in 1821 and was consequently hung in Bristol. The doctor who testified against him kept hold of his body for medical purposes and tanned parts of his skin in order to bind a book, which you can go and look at in Bristol today.
  • Hollywood actor Simon Pegg was born in Gloucester. Simon featured in films such as Star Trek, Paul and Shaun of the Dead.
  • Bristol’s famous suspension bridge was closed for just a day in 2014 due to strong winds. This was the first time the bridge had ever had to be closed.
  • Up until 1840 Bristol actually had its own time zone! Running 10 minutes behind, until that year, it was only standardised when train travel came into effect from London and all times had to correlate.
